These are another favorite Guilbert family treat. My mom started making these when I was little and over time we have perfected the recipe. I don't know where the original came from, but they're pretty different now! Of course, I add a few extra chocolate chips for good measure!
Here's the recipe for about 4 dozen:
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
4 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
2/3 tsp. cloves
2/3 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 large bottle apple sauce
4 cups flour
2 cups oats
1 package chocolate chips
4 cups raisins (my mom boils them to make them plump)
Mix the ingredients in the same order listed above. You can place them close together on the cookie sheet.
Bake at 325 degrees for about 15 minutes.
Just a warning though- don't eat too many because the oatmeal can do nasty things to you!
