Maddie has always had a creative streak sometimes too creative, so when it came time for the annual Reflections Contest at school she hounded me almost every day to let her make something. Of course at the last minute, we decided that she would make a salt-dough sculpture. The theme was "Beauty Is...", so I asked her what she thought beauty was and she immediately came up with a butterfly (whew, she picked an easy one)! She made the dough, formed the butterfly, and painted it. She was beaming with joy when she took it to school that day! Well, a few days later she came home and said she had won. At first I didn't believe her because they didn't send anything home... until I got the call that she had won first place for her grade. They took a picture of her sculpture and now she is entered in the regional contest. I thought it was pretty neat, and I learned an important lesson- I need to let Maddie be creative even if it does make a big mess!
