This morning we woke up in Vancouver, British Columbia and
drove to Granville Island. They have a marketplace that people set up booths in
and sell the most amazing food. My favorite was the seafood shops that show all
the fish and they had live prawns, crabs, and lobsters. They had shops with
every kind of cheese you could ever want, different types of bacon that they
slice right in front of you, and the most decadent desserts I have ever laid my
eyes on! We had a quick breakfast at one of the pastry shops.

After the market we drove to Canada Place, which is where
our cruise ship left from. Diane and I dropped Brandon and Karen off with the
luggage and then we went in search of a gas station. Did you know that downtown
Vancouver only has 2 gas stations? Crazy! We finally found it, paid our 146.5
cents per liter for gas (which was about $4.60 per gallon… weird Canadians!)
and made it to the rental center in the nick of time. Diane and I decided to
walk back to the cruise ship, which is when I realized I am very fat and out of
shape. (Actually, I’ve known it for a long time!) We ended up finding the
subway and took it to where we were going. That’s another 1st for
me! I have never been on a subway before, and it was really kind of fun!
We met up with Brandon and Karen and I saw my fist Canadian
Mountie! Then we got in line for Canadian Customs… waited to go through for 30
minutes… got in line for security for 30 minutes…. And then got in line for
Royal Caribbean… for 45 minutes!
Whew, we finally got to board the ship after
our backs and feet hurt so badly we couldn’t walk or stand any longer! We went straight to our staterooms which were
humongous! Just kidding- the whole thing was about as big as my master bath.
The entire bathroom is about as big as my tub. We do have 2 portholes, which
are nice.
After that we went up to the buffet and had lunch, then went
back to our rooms where I passed out and fell sound to sleep. I woke up when
our cute little room guy knocked on the door asking if we needed anything. His
name is Joni and he is sweet- he always calls me Miss Jennifer. I really like
him! At 4:00 we had to go on deck in the cold for the muster drill. Of course I
didn’t bring my jacket because it was in my luggage that hadn’t been delivered
yet, so Karen let me use hers. We went
to the deck to watch the ship leave port. After that we went back to the room
and slept and watched TV until dinner time!
Relaxation at its finest!
For dinner, Brandon and I both had a Vidalia onion tart for
an appetizer, prime rib for the main dish, which was delicious! I also wanted
to try grouper, so they brought us a plate of that to share.
For dessert I had
a chocolate cake/mouse with vanilla ice cream. Brandon tried some sort of cake
soaked in something yummy and a peach/blueberry cobbler. That was everyone’s
favorite!
With full tummies and a long day of walking it
was nighty night time!
